Cost to repair an AC unit in Pittsburgh
What Determines AC Repair Costs in Pittsburgh?
Here are the most important factors that go into determining how much it will cost to repair your air conditioner:
The part that needs repairing – The part or parts that need to be repaired or replaced will have the biggest impact on the overall cost to repair your AC system. For example, if you need to repair or replace your thermostat, it’s going to be less expensive than if you need to replace a bigger part, like the blower motor.
Repair vs. replacement – Depending on the repair that’s needed, it may be more cost-effective to replace the entire system. This will obviously increase the cost of your AC service.
Your AC warranty – Depending on the type and length of warranty you have, the part you need repaired or the cost of labor to make the repair (or both) may be covered under warranty. Our suggestion would be to contact the company or contractor who installed your AC to see if the cost of labor may be covered and to check with the manufacturer of your AC system to see if the cost of parts may be covered.

Want to fix it yourself? Try these tips:
- Ensure your thermostat is in the “Cool” position and set to “Auto”, not “On”.
- Check the AC’s circuit breaker and see if it has been switched to “OFF”. If so, switch that sucker back to “ON”.
- Make sure the outdoor “disconnect switch” on your outdoor unit is in the “ON” position. (The disconnect switch is usually a small metal grey box mounted on a wall near the AC’s outdoor unit)
- Change your filter if it’s dirty. A dirty filter blocks airflow to the AC, which can eventually cause the AC to shut down and will cost you in inefficiency.
- Do not leave any AC vents closed—unblock and open any supply vents (the metal grates where the conditioned air comes out).
Dylan was very knowledgeable and walked me through everything without me even needing to ask any questions. I never felt like I was being up-sold or looked at like an ATM machine. All work being done or needed was thoroughly described and discussed before anything was done. Excellent service.
