Cost to repair a furnace in Pittsburgh

Price Factors

Part that needs to be repaired: The cost of your furnace repair will vary greatly depending on what part of your furnace needs to be repaired or replaced. For example, replacing a broken thermostat is going to be a lot cheaper than replacing a heat exchanger. In some cases, you may need to repair or replace multiple parts, which will also increase the cost of your repair.

Repair vs. replacement– Depending on what’s wrong with your furnace, it may be best to replace your entire system altogether. For example, heat exchangers are very expensive parts, and the cost to replace them is usually not worth saving your current furnace. After taking a look at your furnace, a tech will help you determine whether you should invest in repairing your current system or if you should just replace your system altogether.

Whether or not your warranty is valid– If your furnace is still under warranty, the cost to repair it will probably be quite a bit cheaper. Your furnace likely came with two warranties: a parts warranty (which covers the cost of parts) and a labor warranty (which covers the cost of labor). You can check with the manufacturer of your furnace and/or the company or contractor you hired to determine if your warranties are still valid.

Troubleshooting

Want to fix it yourself? Try these tips:

Need a hand assessing your current furnace issues? If your furnace isn’t blowing hot air, is making a strange noise, or your furnace won’t turn on, try these steps:

Check that the thermostat is in the “heat” position

It seems simple, but it is always good to check your thermostat is set to the correct setting (and you’d be surprised how many times this is the culprit!).

Check the furnace’s circuit breaker

Go to your breaker box, and make sure the heating circuit panel has not switched to “OFF”. If so, switch it back to “ON” and try your furnace again. If your furnace turns back on, wait a few minutes and go check the breaker box again. If the circuit has tripped, call the heating experts at Calfo right away.

Change your filter

Due to Pittsburgh’s harsh winters, a filthy furnace filter can quickly block airflow, which can eventually cause your furnace to overheat and shut down. Calfo can also help you determine if and when it is time to replace your furnace’s dirty filter, to keep your air clean and your furnace running efficiently.

Unblock and open any supply vents

A common home-heating misconception is that closing the unused air vents in a home can save energy. Open all of the vents in your home to allow even pressure throughout your ductwork. You may also want to try unclogging your furnace condensate line, by attaching a shop vac or industrial vacuum to the end of the condensate drain (white PVC pipe) on the outside of your house.

They are my go to company…

Just relocated to Pittsburgh from California and during this cold weather snap our furnace stopped working. Called CALFO and Jason, the field service tech arrived and diagnosed the problem immediately. We had to replace blower motor and got the furnace up and running perfectly. Prompt, diligent and very professional service. They are my go to company now.

Highly recommended

Highly recommended. The technician who serviced my furnace was very knowledgeable and friendly. I scheduled my repair online and within 24 hours my furnace was up and running. I intend to use CALFO for future repairs and maintenance. Overall an easy process from scheduling to repairs. Better to use a trusted company than to take a gamble.
